Morning event: This lecture provides a compact introduction to blockchain/distributed ledger technology. How do cryptocurrencies work? What are smart contracts running on blockchain systems? What is the core problem and difficulty they solve?
Anyone working with conventional company-centric information systems should take notice. We take popular blockchain systems such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Corda and Hyperledger Fabric as points of departure, but do not delve into their specifics. Instead, we highlight the essential aspects and unavoidable trade-offs between desirable properties of any blockchain system and pinpoint some risks and limitations of current blockchain technology.
Fritz Henglein is professor of programming languages and systems at DIKU. He directs the Strategic Research Center on Functional High-performance Computing for Finance (HIPERFIT) and chairs the steering committee of the Danish Innovation Network on Finance IT (CFIR).
